Parents in Uttar Pradesh and Kerala should plan for a school holiday on Monday, 19 October 2026.
Uttar Pradesh
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has declared a public holiday on 19 October for Mahanavami. Government schools, colleges and offices will remain closed. Reports say 20 October is also linked to Dussehra (Vijayadashami) holiday arrangements.
Kerala
The Kerala government has declared 19 October a holiday for Durgashtami. Educational institutions, including professional colleges, will be closed along with government offices.
Points to note
- Private schools usually follow state holidays, but confirm with your child's school.
- Check whether any tests or exams scheduled for these dates have been moved.
- Rely on official school messages rather than social media forwards.
Use the break well
A festival break is a good chance for rest, family time and light revision. Board exam students can use one or two hours a day to go through sample papers without losing the festive spirit.
