The Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) has revised the internal-choice rules in question papers for Classes 9 to 12, effective from the 2026-27 academic session. The notification is dated 15 October 2026.
What has changed
- 2-mark very short-answer questions: internal choice removed. Students must answer the question given.
- 3-mark short-answer questions: internal choice retained.
- 4-mark long-answer questions: internal choice retained.
- NSQF (vocational) subjects: internal choice added for 5-mark and 7-mark questions.
The changes follow decisions of the board's Curriculum Committee and Executive Committee. Reports describe the new format as closer to the CBSE style of question papers.
What this means for students
Without a choice in 2-mark questions, students cannot skip chapters and hope for an alternative. Every topic in the syllabus needs at least basic preparation.
Preparation tips
- Cover the full syllabus; do not leave any chapter out.
- Practise short, precise answers for 2-mark questions: definitions, formulas, key points.
- Use the board's model papers once they reflect the new pattern.
- Check subject-wise details in the official notification on mpbse.nic.in.
