Sainik School Imphal opened on 7 October 1971 in war sheds near Tulihal airport and moved to its present campus at Pangei, Imphal East, in March 1974. It is one of the Sainik Schools run by the Sainik Schools Society under the Ministry of Defence, an English-medium residential school affiliated to CBSE that prepares cadets for the armed forces. Admission is at Class VI and Class IX through AISSEE. The campus has an academic block, dormitories including a girls' hostel, a dining hall, sports infrastructure, canteen and MI room.
