Every year, lakhs of Class 12 Science students ask the same question: how should I use previous year papers? Solving real board papers is one of the most effective ways to prepare for the CBSE exam, because it shows you the pattern, the difficulty and the time pressure before the actual day.
Where to get the official papers
CBSE publishes previous years' question papers on its own website. Always download from the official source so you get the genuine paper and the right marking scheme.
- 2026 exam (regular and compartment): cbse.gov.in question papers 2026, Class XII
- 2025 exam (regular and compartment): cbse.gov.in question papers 2025, Class XII
- Main page for all years: cbse.gov.in previous years' question papers
- Sample papers and marking schemes: cbseacademic.nic.in
The official page lists Physics, Chemistry and Biology papers with direct download links. For the earlier years (2022, 2023 and 2024), use the same main page and the CBSE Academic website.
Subjects to cover for Class 12 Science
Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Biology, English, and your optional subject.
How to practise with previous year papers
- Start after finishing a unit, not before. Use a single-chapter question set first.
- Take a full paper every week in exam conditions: 3 hours, no phone, no notes.
- Check your answers against the official marking scheme. Board examiners give marks for steps and key terms, so learn to write that way.
- Keep an error log. Note each mistake by chapter and type (concept, calculation, silly error). Revisit it every Sunday.
- Spot the repeating areas. Some concepts and question types come up again and again across years. Give them extra revision time.
- Do the last two to three years last. Keep the most recent papers for your final mock tests.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Reading the solution before trying the question.
- Skipping the case-based and assertion-reason questions.
- Practising only your strong chapters.
- Using unofficial answer keys with errors.
A simple 8-week plan
- Weeks 1-3: Chapter-wise questions from the last 5 years.
- Weeks 4-6: One full paper per subject every week.
- Weeks 7-8: Timed mocks on the latest papers, plus error log revision.
