Why Delhi Parents Prefer CBSE Schools
Delhi is home to over 5,500 schools, and CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) schools make up the largest share — for good reason. The CBSE curriculum is nationally portable (critical in a city with a highly mobile workforce), aligns with JEE and NEET competitive exam preparation, and is the board of choice for most of India's top engineering and medical entrance examinations.
With Delhi's schools ranging from government-aided schools charging ₹1,000/year to elite private schools charging ₹4 lakh+/year, this guide helps you find the right fit across every budget and neighbourhood.
What to Look for in a Delhi CBSE School
- Board 10th/12th results: CBSE schools publish their Class 10 and 12 board results — check the school's pass percentage and distinction rate over the last 3 years.
- Student-teacher ratio: Aim for below 30:1 in classes. Delhi's overcrowded schools sometimes run 40+ students per section.
- Transport: Delhi's traffic means a school 10 km away could mean a 1-hour commute. Prioritise schools within your zone.
- Sports and co-curricular: Look for schools with playgrounds, swimming pools, music rooms, or specific programmes your child is interested in.
- Affiliation number: Verify the school's CBSE affiliation is active at cbseaff.nic.in.
